Today's Meeting

Hi Everyone,

Great Meeting this morning, 37 members graced us with their presence. It was either due to the fact that so many people came to the photo shoot at The Cliffs and wanted to see the shots members took on that outing. Or they could have come to listen to Peter Hardie's excellent talk on Flash Photography. Hands up how many knew how the shutter mechanics work on a camera these days??

Peter enlightened us with his superb knowledge of how and when to use the flash on our cameras.

The lesson notes provided by Peter will be on the blog soon.

Members were very interested in Peter Hardie's talk
The library staff had two lots of extra chairs delivered to cater for the number of people who attended the meeting this morning.

Peter explained the ins and outs of Flash Photography

Peter explained how the shutters (curtains) function during a shot
More details on Shutter Curtains
More details will be on the lesson notes here on the blog in a couple of days.

To illustrate, Peter had his camera hooked up to the TV
The challenge for members now: Send us two shots using your flash for the next meeting on the 14th September.

Next Meeting - Monday 24 August 11.00am

Hi Members,

We have a very exciting meeting on Monday. First we'll have a look at Members' photos taken at our last photo shoot at Kangaroo Point.

Then we are very privileged to have Peter Hardy as guest speaker. Peter's Topic is on

Peter is a keen amateur photographer and has been retired for 2 years. He has made use of his new found freedom to take his photographic passion to a new level. Peter runs an advanced photography class for U3A Northside and also helps to organise the photography competition at the RNA (Ekka).
Peter has always enjoyed photography since the days of compact film cameras and more so in recent times since the advent of digital photography.
Peter loves sharing whatever photographic knowledge he has with others. He feels that the greatest benefit of photography is being able to see everyday things in a new light and from a different perspective. Transitioning from taking snapshots to creating photographs is very satisfying.

So it promises to be a great club meeting.

Yesterday's Meeting at The Cliffs

Wow, what a surprise we got when we walked up to the meeting point at The Cliffs at Kangaroo Point. As it is a public holiday in Logan City, we expected just a handful of members of each club. To our surprise a large number of members came along for the opportunity to capture the cityscape, the river, the Cliffs park and the church next door.  Then the local cafe did a good trade from our members.

Some of the more energetic people walked all the way down the steps to the river bank.

So the challenge now is. Send us your three best shots from yesterday's photo shoot for our Show and Tell session on the 24th August. Send them to before Saturday night 22nd.

here's a short video of the photoshoot

Hi Members,

We went on a Rekke under the Story Bridge and found no car parks, so we'll give that spot a miss. So, we're going to Kangaroo Point Cliffs where there is ample free parking on one side up from the rotunda as well as paid parking further along near the coffee shop.

So, we'll meet at 10am at the meeting place (SEE BELOW OF THIS POST).

Here are a few things you'll see...

Wonderful views over Brisbane

Wolfgang Buttress's Venus Rising Sculpture
Wonderful details of the sculpture

The Anglican Church

Some modern playground sculptures
For the technically minded

Kangaroo Point Park next to the Coffee Shop
Interesting Flora for the lovers of flowers
If we're lucky, we'll see some climbers again

We'll meet at the Meeting Place in River Terrace, between Bell and Paton Streets at 10.00am.

This outing is for both - 11.00am and 1.00pm camera clubs
