Next Meeting Monday 27 April - 11:00 am

Hi Members,

We start off on Monday with photographs members took on our photo shoot to Mayes Cottage at the last meeting.

Mayes Cottage
The main topic for Monday's meeting is STREET PHOTOGRAPHY. Street photography does not necessitate the presence of a street or even the urban environment. The subject may be absent of people and can be an object or environment where the image presents a decidedly human character in facsimile or aesthetic.

GIVE THE FOLLOWING SOME THOUGHT!

Logan District U3A is organising a TRIVIA MORNING on Tuesday 7 July between 9 and 12 at the Logan Community Centre hall (where we had that great Christmas party.

Classes and Groups have been asked to put together some teams of up to 8 players.

To all you knowledgeable members of the camera club, we need to put up a team (or two), so think about it. Let's show the others how smart we are, right!

Today's Meeting

Hi Members,

The club visited Mayes Cottage in Kingston this morning. The Logan City Council was kind enough to open the Cottage for us to visit and photograph inside the cottage and the grounds.  A couple of volunteers were there to answer questions about the cottage and the Mayes family. Turns out member Yvonne is related to the Mayes family. Small world.

Mayes Cottage is a fabulous place for photography, inside the cottage are lots of photogenic exhibits and the grounds has lots of old sheds to get photographers excited.

After the visit, we enjoyed a cuppa in the grounds. Peter was there with his camera. We must do that again.

We ask those members who came along this morning to send us your best three shots from this morning for our next meeting on the 27th of April at the library.

Next Meeting Monday 13 April - 10AM

Hi Members,

We'll meet again this coming Monday with a club outing to Mayes Cottage. We have organised private access to the cottage provided by Logan City Council. The cottage is not normally open on a Monday.

Address: 20 Mawarra Street, Kingston. See map below of how to get there.
We'll meet at 10:00am and will have private access until 12:00 noon, take some food and a thermos for a picnic in the beautiful grounds.

here are some photos from a previous visit to Mayes Cottage a couple of years ago.

Below is a map of how to get there.

Head south on Kingston Road, past Wembley Road.
Turn right into Mayes Ave.
Turn left into Verian Street.
Turn left into Mawarra Stret
Park in the grounds of Mayes Cottage.
Mayes Cottage is a genuine relic of Queensland's pioneering age. Genuine, because it is almost exactly as it was when it was built over a hundred years ago, in 1887. This house, and what remains of the slab hut that stands outside, are originals, not reproductions. For visitors this is a rare opportunity to experience a unique part of Logan's heritage.
Since we have been lucky to obtain private access, we hope to see a large group of members.

SEE YOU ON MONDAY - 10 AM
