Today's Meeting

Wow, what a meeting! We had 33 people attending today's meeting at the library. Three new members joined us this morning, welcome to the club.

The challenge was to show either three shots taken from one spot at the last meeting, or three shots taken anywhere from the same spot without moving so, we started off with our show of members' photos. The final option was following John's excellent talk at the last meeting on Alternate Reality Photography, so quite a number of members have taken to this type of art.

Here are some examples:

Janice created this scary pic called 'Visitors From Space'

Josie created this Fantasy

And Rosalind came up with this one, entitled 'Shipwrecked'
And Jean created this 'Scary Telephone Box' image

Sheila concluded the show with this number 'Fishy Fishy'

As you can see there is a lot of imagination and talent in this club of ours, well done everyone.

Our guest speaker this morning was Des Lund, Des Wilkinson's golf buddy a retired professional photographer who worked for many years not only in the racing industry, but also in universities and hospitals where he headed their medical and dental photography divisions. His talk was called FOCUSING CLOTH TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY.

Next Meeting - Monday 28 July - 11.00 AM

Hi Members,

We have a very interesting meeting planned for this coming Monday. Member Des Wilkinson has been able to secure his golfing partner Des Lund to come and talk to us about his work as a technical, scientific and medical Photographer. I'm sure we're all going to enjoy finding out what's involved in his field.

But first, don't forget about the challenge for the slide show. If you remember, we asked that you either submit three photos taken from the same spot.

Our front yard

Or three photos of Alternate Reality Photography. You can be as silly as you like with that.

And that is quite silly

Or three photos you took at the last meeting, standing in one spot.

If you haven't already done so, send us your three pix to u3acameraclub@gmail.com

SEE YOU ON MONDAY

Today's Meeting

The new masthead photo above is by member Janice Kazakoff

We're off and running in Term 3. We looked at members' panorama shots and Kathy demonstrated an amazing app for your smart phone that vibrates and spins the phone in a circle all the while taking photos to produce a 360ยบ panorama.

Our guest speaker this morning was John Rodgers, who explained to us the various Photo Competitions local, national and international and what kind of rules one needs to put up with. We have a number of club members who regularly submit their photos into these competitions.

Most competitions in Australia are advertised in newspapers, photo magazines and local government publications.

There is an International Federation of Photographic Art under all its aspects and by all kinds of photographic events, called F.I.A.P. Check out their website CLICK HERE

John then got us all interested in ALTERNATE REALITY PHOTOGRAPHY.

There are lots of examples to see if you google Alternate Reality Photography. It's a lot of fun doing silly things with the help of a camera and an editing program.

After John's talk, we watched a short Mike Browne video entitled 'MAKE TIME FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY.' We took up his challenge to stand in one place for five minutes and take as many different photos as possible.

Your task for the next meeting has three options:

A - Send us three shots of Alternate Reality Photography

B - Send us three shots you took in the room today
C - Go somewhere stand still, don't move and take three shots from where you're standing.
Or a mixture of the above options.

As usual, send us three shots to u3acameraclub@gmail.com before Saturday 26th July.

GO AND HAVE FUN

Next Meeting 14 July, 11.00 AM Logan North Library

Hi Members,

How time flies. We're about to start Term 3 of the year already with the next meeting.

I am still awaiting some of your panorama shots.

Queen Street Mall
Gold Coast Hinterland from Springwood Environmental Park
I'll choose some of your panorama shots as masthead for this blog over the next few months.

After the slideshow, member John Rodgers will outline what judges look for in photo competitions. He will then follow with Alternate Reality photography.

It promises to be an exciting first meeting for Term 3.
