Monday's Meeting

On Monday, we followed up from a previous topic "Travel Photography." We added a slideshow of pictures taken by members. We were priviledged to see some excellent shots.

After morning tea, we expanded the topic by looking at how to produce a Travel Video. most cameras and mobile phones these days have a video function so you don't really need a dedicated video camera to produce a travel video.

Here's the video we looked at from Justin of tripfilms.com

To finish up, we saw a couple of travel videos Bill shot in the USA earlier this year.

More on HDR

Rod Holmes sent me the following email:

Hi Bill,

Just looking at the Net for HDR and found a site offering a program a lot cheaper than the Nik software Jason was promoting.

From the DPS website:-  "The most popular way to combine three or more bracketed images in the HDR style is a cheap program called Photomatix and on their website are tutorials ahich will show you more about how to do it.

Also check out the DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY SCHOOL WEB SITE for tutorials on HDR

I know one gets what one pays for but may be a place to start.  I have not bought it yet - any comments?

Rod Holmes
Hi Rod,

Thanks very much, I like Photomatix and will probably buy the software. In the meantimes, members, check it our for yourself. There are some stunning results on their web site.

First meeting in Term 3 - Full House

Hi members,

We had our first meeting of Term 3 this morning and 40 people attended which meant the library had to bring us extra chairs. Of course we had an excellent guest speaker in Jason Buck from Photo Continental.

Jason spoke about editing software such as Lightroom and HDR programs such as Efex Pro.

Here are some of the things you can do with these programs:

Diane's first attempt with HDR
which brings out the details extremely well
Bill's first attempt (Before)
(and After)

Here are some pictures using HDR by Karen Larsen from her blog What Karen Sees

2012 TERM 3

Hi Members,

How time flies, we're already starting Term 3 on Monday, and it will be an exciting meeting again.

We have Jason Buck, from Photo Continental along to talk to us about Photography in general, as well as Lightroom and HDR programs. Jason talked to us last year and he did a fantastic job getting everybody fired up on photography.

If you have any questions about your equipment, bring it along.

Jason will be able to answer all your questions and concerns with your cameras.

That's this coming Monday at 11.00 AM at the Logan North Library.
